Hi, I’m Jyoti (jyoh-thee)

~ a Yoga Teacher and Menstrual Cycle Coach who practices, teaches and embodies decolonised wellness ~

My life used to feel as though it was happening to me and not for me

I spent my early 20s longing for the weekends and feeling the ever-prominent Sunday scaries.

I was disconnected from myself and chronically stressed. I tried to suppress my feelings and follow societal expectations but it became impossible.

I longed for a life where I was living for more than the weekend. I longed for freedom, fulfilment and inner peace.

Decolonised wellness brought me home to myself

In search of meaning and fulfilment, I began exploring my indigenous wellness modalities, delving into ancient philosophies and sciences.

Studying the wisdom of my ancestors awakened something within me. I found solace in the scriptures and felt a sense of remembering.

I travelled to India to complete my yoga teacher training and it was the most incredible, mind-opening and transformative experience

I realised that yoga is ingrained into my Indian culture and I have been practising it all my life.

Soon after, I discovered cyclical living and menstrual cycle awareness (MCA) and my mind was blown.

I stopped fighting my body’s natural rhythms and started to live in sync with my cycle and everything changed.

I felt more connected to myself, I felt more grounded and I felt more alive.

This was the medicine I needed and I knew it was the medicine the world needed too.

Cyclical living used to be commonplace and I was outraged that it wasn’t anymore.

I had to share it with more people so became a certified Cycle Coach.

I developed my unique craft, combining these modalities, whilst embodying their teachings myself.

My journey has been ~ and continues to be ~ deeply transformational, beautiful and uncomfortable.

AND NOW…

I am honouring my body, decolonising my mind and nourishing my menstrual eco-system.

I am peeling back the layers of conditioning as I come home to myself

I am living an intentional and aligned life that I love, feeling present and grounded.

I believe we are all walking each other home. That everything you need already exists within you.

You don't need to look outside of yourself to find it ~ including to me.

If you feel called, I would love to guide you to connect deeply with your authentic self and live in sync with your body’s natural rhythms.

Decolonisation is an integral part of my philosophy ~ it’s what led me to create my podcast ~ Decolonising Wellness.

I love to work with other conscious souls ~ people who value a decolonised approach to wellness that is rooted in inclusivity, diversity and an honouring of indigenous wisdom.

Colonised thinking

~ Life is linear

~ The menstrual cycle is stigmatised, seen as unclean

~ The menstrual cycle is reduced to a mere biological process

~ Nature is a resource to be exploited for economic gain

~ Wellbeing is a luxury, reserved for a privileged few

Decolonised thinking

~ Life is cyclical

~ The menstrual cycle is revered as sacred

~ The menstrual cycle is a blueprint for overall health~ physical, mental, emotional and spiritual

~ Nature is a sacred and interconnected part of life

~ Wellbeing is intrinsic to our existence, a birthright accessible to all

Why Jyoti Rani?

Jyoti Rani encompasses who I am, using the language of my mother tongue, of my ancestors. Jyoti means divine light and Rani means queen. It's a nickname lovingly given to me by my Dadiji (paternal grandmother).

Jyoti Rani encompasses the energy I bring to my work

~ light: shining a light on shadows, shining brightly and giving others permission to do the same

~ divinity: uncovering the divine within and appreciating the divine in the mundane

~ queen energy as I help women and menstruators realise they are queens, they are worthy, they are magical, they are powerful and that all of this lies within. It's innate ~ it's in our blood, our bones and our body.

Jyoti Rani is a homecoming and an honouring of my journey of becoming…

  • someone who is truly proud of their heritage, their roots and feels a sense of belonging

  • someone who now pronounces their name correctly to everyone they meet and doesn't whitewash herself

  • someone who doesn't make herself uncomfortable to allow others to feel comfortable
